Why Copywriting Is Important and How It Can Make Or Break Your Business
In 4 years of trial and error in internet marketing the most challenging part was copywriting for me.
The first challenge was to pick a profitable market. It’s hard, really.
But all others things like, product creation, building a website, automating the sales process, traffic generation. They were all easy.
I can pay someone to create a product for me once I have the idea and the niche in mind and maybe the outline of product. I can get my product ready in a few days.
I’ve been designing web sites and graphics for over 10 years, that’s a piece of cake. If I wasn’t good at it, it could have cost me a couple hundred dollars per site.
Google is always there to send me traffic, I can get quality traffic within thirty minutes by starting an adwords campaign or I can approach at least 20 people with huge subscriber lists and tell them that I’ll give them %60 commissions on sales and I’m sure I can get a few of them to promote my product to their list. That would take only a day and I’ll be getting traffic to my sales page.
But, if nobody buys then I’d be in trouble. That’s where copywriting becomes important. Why does it make a big difference?
Here’s why, just a quick example.. Let’s say you have a product at $39 price. You create your google adwords campaign and start paying google to send you traffic. I’ll give quick hypothetical figures for this example.
Product Price: $39
Cost Per Click: $0.50 (Cost of only 1 visitor to your sales page, getting 50 cents per click is something average these days)
Conversion: 1% ( Ratio of visitors who buy, in that example it will be % 1, that means 1 sale out of 100 visitors )
Visitor count: 1000
Now, let’s do the math to see how much we can make out of this campaign.
1000 x 0.50 = $500 - Total Cost Of Traffic
1% = 0.01 x 1000 = 10 - This is how many sales you’ll get for 1000 visitors with 1% conversion.
$39 x 10 = $390 - This is your total sales amount.
$390 - $500 = - $110 - And this is how much money you’re gonna lose if your copy sucks.
What if you get 2% conversion?
2% = 0.02 x 1000 = 20 Sales
$39 x 20 = $780 Total Amount
$780 - $500 = $280 - That means you’re making money…
That’s why it’s a big deal.
Most of beginners fail to see this and instead of improving the sales copy they give up complaining “this internet marketing thing doesn’t work”.
I know I have done that. There are tens of thousands people making their living online. That’s not the case. It works, it works like magic.
In my opinion, if you are going to start a business online and use words to sell, you should grab every book about copy writing and phsychology of persuasion and read them.
Dan Kennedy, Gary Halbert, John Carlton, Joe Sugarmann, Ted Nicholas, Carl Galletti, Bob Bly, Yanik Silver, Frank Kern. If you see something that one of these heroes written just buy it and read it.
That’s all for today.
P.S: Do you have any book recommendations? Something to say? Do you want to add something or do you think that this post sucks? Please comment.
